Neil Higgins Singer/Songwriter and Solo Performer
Bio- Press release.Celebrating the completion of his debut, original CD release (from the inside)2003, this singer/ songwriter and accomplished solo performer has began to entrench himself into the Australian music industry, cutting a completely individual style.
Neil was born in Bathurst, NSW in February 1964 and his early childhood life and young adulthood, stemmed from his upbringing on a small rural property at O'Connell (near Bathurst ). He has always had a love for music and a good song, with his own talents starting to surface in his mid twenties.
Working in many different environments with many different types of people, allowed his genuine feelings to emerge. This platform enabled him to develope a unique style which allows him to project honest, compassionate songs, and includes a sometimes humorous delivery which keeps some intrigue in the direction of his performance.
Neil's playing style is cutting the genera of folk/Australiana/& rock balladeer, and in performance, he delivers a song with a caring nature that sometimes and often, combs through some social issues displaying an opportunity of change. This feel, sometimes crosses to another area and gives the listener a chance to experience a more vigorous sound, displaying a more rugged, earthy, Australiana feel which doesn't lose the direction of where his writings and the performance is heading.
While songwriting is his passion, his repitiour is diverse enough to include songs from other great era's, such as with songs from the 70's/ 80's, and some soulsearching Australiana, both modern and traditional inclusive. He refuses to be drawn into the scrambled net of a hightech midifile system, and prefers to perform unaccompanied by such technology. Instead, he relies heavily upon being able to deliver a song in a pure manner, which displays a texture of good vocals, full sounding Maton acoustic guitar, crystal clear amplification and songs that are written with substance.
Through song, he is a story teller, and in his own way, he is helping to keep the bard alive.
Neil now resides with his family, in the North/East Victorian township of Beechworth, where his performances these days, places him on both sides of the 'great divide', in both major centres and smaller localities alike. His performances place him in Beechworth, Albury/Wodonger, Newcastle, Young, Tamworth, Bathurst, Gloucester, Orange, Maitland, Oberon, and resorts at the 'Vic Alps', 'NswBarrington Tops' and 'Jenolan Caves'. Festival events in NSW, Victoria and South Australia, are to culminate in intermittent tours, which are taking place throughout 2003 and beyond.
Neil's quest for songwriting and performing continues, and he is always ready for a performance booking. He also remains on high alert for a new idea that moves him enough, to imbed those thoughts and feelings into a new song.
